In practice, post-construction cleaning is not one deep clean at the end. It is a sequence. Debris has to leave the site while trades are still working. Dust settles for days after drywall. Otherwise punch list work leaves fresh marks after the space already looked finished.
So treating it as a single job at the end is the most common reason a walkthrough slips. We schedule around your build, not around ours.
Three cleans, not one
Instead, each pass happens at a different moment and does a different job.
Rough clean
Debris haul-out, sweep-downs and trash removal between trades. Keeps the site walkable and safe while framing, drywall and MEP work continue.
Final clean
Finally, top-to-bottom dust removal, windows and glass, fixtures, vents, cabinetry and floors, all detailed for handover. This is the pass the owner actually sees.
Touch-up clean
Punch list work always leaves marks. We come back after it is finished so the building is spotless on inspection day.

Who is responsible for post-construction cleaning services
On most commercial jobs the general contractor carries the final clean inside the contract, but the line item is often vague and gets squeezed late in the build. So it is worth agreeing early who pays for which pass, because that is where handover arguments usually start. We have been running final cleans for Cincinnati general contractors since 2011, so you can read how we work before you call. Post-construction cleaning is one of three commercial cleaning services we run.

Debris is the other line that moves. Construction and demolition waste is handled separately from ordinary trash, and the EPA sets out how under sustainable management of construction and demolition materials. Dust carries its own rules too, because drywall and concrete dust fall under the OSHA limits for respirable crystalline silica.
